How Can Manual Therapy Help You?

The manual therapy skills of the clinicians at USA Sports Medicine is unmatched anywhere else in the industry. Our clinicians are specialized in soft tissue and joint mobilization techniques for the neck, spine and extremities. At the joint level our clinicians utilize joint mobilizations, manipulations and muscle energy techniques to improve the alignment and movement of these structures. At the soft tissue level our therapists incorporate ART, cross friction, edema reduction, Graston, Theragun and cupping to optimize function. Manual therapy is utilized as a means of pain reduction, mobility improvement, swelling reduction, tissue extensibility preparation and functional increases. These benefits when combined with exercises provide the greatest environment for healing.

If you are experiencing pain, tightness, or limited mobility in your muscles or joints, manual therapy and massage therapy may provide the relief you need. At USA Sports, our manual therapy and massage services may be used to treat joints, muscles, or nerve impingements. Our massage and manual therapy team is highly skilled and experienced in treating a variety of conditions. We will assess your health needs and help reduce pain, improve the range and quality of joint movement, increase nerve mobility, and restore normal function.

Manual therapy is a type of physical therapy that uses hands-on techniques to treat the muscles, joints, and connective tissues. Massage therapy is a manual therapy that uses pressure and strokes to release tension in the muscles. These two forms of physical therapy can be combined or used separately to help treat a wide range of conditions, from back pain and arthritis to sports injuries and post-surgery recovery. At our clinics, we offer both manual therapy and massage services to help patients with various health conditions.

Our treatments may be beneficial in treating joints with restricted mobility and range of motion in certain musculoskeletal circumstances. This limitation can cause discomfort and an alteration in function, posture, and movement. Manual therapy and massage services aim to restore joint mobility and reduce muscle tightness to allow the patient to move freely again. The benefits of these services can be divided into two main categories

PRP has been shown to be better in at least 2 studies when compared to exercise alone (11,12)

Studies show improved pain relief, at least for the first 6 months when compared to cortisone injection – a safer alternative to a cortisone injection.

More About Manual Therapy

This involves massage therapy that applies pressure to the muscles and other soft tissues of the body. This technique is designed to help relax muscles, improve circulation, break up scar tissue, and relieve discomfort in the soft tissues.

With manipulation techniques, a therapist applies precise movements of varying force, speed, and distances to pull, push, or twist joints and bones into position. This technique is used to loosen tight tissues around a joint, reducing discomfort and improving flexibility, movement, and alignment.

Our physical therapist certified in orthopedic manual therapy will lead the session with hands-on techniques rather than modalities. Manual physical therapists utilize their hands to apply pressure on muscular tissue and massage joints to reduce pain resulting from muscle spasms, tense joints, or tight muscles. When you visit our clinic, a manual physical therapist will assess your condition and create a treatment plan that includes a variety of techniques, such as stretching, range-of-motion exercises, massage, and joint manipulation.

Manual therapy and massage services are an excellent alternative for those who prefer a more hands-on approach to treatment. If you are suffering from chronic pain, muscle tension, or joint stiffness and have not found relief through other forms of treatment, it may be time to consider reaching out to a manual physical therapist for help.

At USA Sports, we use manual therapy to relieve soreness and tightness and restore your natural mobility. Our staff is credentialed in the top therapy techniques, including COMT, GrastonTM, Active Release Technique (ART)TM, cupping, joint mobilization/manipulation, soft tissue massage, myofascial release, and muscle energy techniques. These techniques are essential in our practice to reduce pain, improve range of motion and function, reduce inflammation and muscle tension, and facilitate movement. When combined with therapeutic and corrective exercises, these benefits provide the best environment for healing.

The manual therapy skills of the clinicians at USA Sports Medicine are unmatched anywhere else in the industry. Our physical therapists take pride in providing patients with the highest level of personalized care in a professional and welcoming environment to ensure the best possible experience.
